In Texas if you don't like the weather.....the saying goes to "wait a few minutes".....it is always changing. Well......the saying is true. Was sitting in my favorite chair just enjoying a cool crisp afternoon knitting when Richard says "Come look!"

Would you believe it???......took a few pictures and notice that the battery is low.......so plug in and wait a few........headed out to take more and the snow has company.......sleet.........What is next???
So enjoy the 'white' along with us........

Cricket did go out the front door........looked at it.......looked at me like I had lost my mind........and came right back in........ Not everyone enjoys our 'once in awhile' weather..........

The second week of the month and I am just getting to the blog......shame.....We celebrated Jase's second birthday a little late.....Everyone else was there for him on his day but us....we managed to have 'the bug'....and it wasn't something that needed sharing. So Sunday the family gathered (yep it was Super Bowl too...but that took second place) and had Pizza and Birthday for our little guy.

We let Elmo do the singing.....

There were a few other things

...but the money made it high on the list of good things.......

and I had a request...

...love it when the kids and Grands request........

....and we couldn't just stop with one!!!

And way too nice to stay indoors......so out in the yard I went! I managed to bag up 3 bags of weeds and/or leaves so have made a pretty good head-way into Spring readiness for planting.Just as Richard and I planned on a good rest........we heard "Am...Ma" on the other side of the fence.....then this ....

Now what are you to do but smile and let them at it!

My "Almost Daughter" came to visit.......

Although visits are sometimes far apart.......we still keep 'in-touch'..........when visits do come they are always fun.......

Debbie is my 'almost Daughter'.......she was invited into our hearts back in 1978...(has it really been that long?)...She was a struggling student at Cisco Junior College that just needed a little help with her Chemistry. From there it just stuck!

We watched her graduate from the College....then when we moved ......she moved with us. Debbie was there with us when Rodney was born......she somehow manged to share a room with Jeffery......(his first live-in)...... When life had us moving again we helped her move to Stephenville to finish her education at Tarleton. There she had the support of my parents and in-laws. After graduating she went to work with the State as a health inspector for local dairymen. And there she worked until retiring this past year.

She is about to start an new career........teaching the hungry in Africa how to grow their own food. We waved goodbye to her yesterday and she will be boarding a plane on Tuesday.

I couldn't be prouder of her.........she has grown into a strong woman.

Today was the day..........

Some of you, if not all, know that we lost two of our fur babies this past year......Spookie was with us for 12 years and Hunker for 13.....They were wonderful companions and we knew they would be hard to replace. But lately the house was just feeling too empty .......and "someone" said that Cricket was becoming too much of a Diva as well. So we have been looking......I would visit the pounds....there are three in our area.........we haunted Craig's List..........we watched the paper..........even Rodney put a note up on Face Book that his "Mom was looking for a pup".......

But yesterday the perfect ad appeared on Craig's List.......I texted the person and waited........and waited.....and then texted again this morning and YES!!! She replied........so off to Buckholts we went with Cricket in tow.........and this is what we came home with.......

Richard has named her Dakota (after his truck)......and we think she is gonna be the perfect fit. She is only 2-3 pounds but ........

....she seems to have fit.

It is amazing that something that tiny can put a smile on the face.......

Now we haven't forgotten the Queen of the House....

....and she had an oppinion ......

And we think it is gonna all work out fine in the end.....

I was asked what we wanted for Christmas this year.......and I told all the kids that a new family picture for 'the Wall' would be just perfect........well.......we did get one......

Knitting lessons

My GrandDaughter Journey always wants to knit with GramMa when we get together...this year at Thanksgiving we found time to sit and knit again.

The big thing this time was that she finished her first reall project! A neckwarmer.....we added a button and it was perfect.

While we knitted she would ask me so many questions......I hadn't realized there were so many little stories about my life 'before' her that hadn't been told.....I think the stories of my Grandmother Margwarth amazed her the most......

We made a trip to WalMart and purchased yarn for her next project....a 'real' scarf....20 stitches across and knit away..

.....You could catch her working on it almost anywhere..anytime......

I know she will have made good progress on it by the next time I see her.

Where do I begin to catch up???

This site can become adictive! But you can find some interesting ideas that do turn into projects. For instance.....I spied a wall hanging that is used to measure the heights of your loved ones. So being a 'good wife' I asked the hubby to help make one for us to use to watch the growth of our Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. With a scrap piece of lumber....yardstick...some masking tape.....and a Sharpie pen.......

This comes about! Then you add a 'short person'........

......a memory comes to life...

Today was another fun afternoon with Jase......he is growing so fast.......so many new words and he wants us to understand

One thing he loves is the MailMan.....he will watch for their trucks when riding with me ......so what else could we find to play with???? and finally something to do with all that "Junk Mail"...........

Then it was time to head home......we sang 'Old MacDonald' most of the way.......watching for dogs, blue trucks, deer and finally the two stone lions at the house down the street from where they live. We had fun........or at least I did!

Woke up way too early (2:30 in the am....early) .....after a cup of coffee and some TV time the sun finally peeked out of the clouds........YEP.........clouds! This has been one of the longest hottest dryest years in a very long time......so was nice looking at all those clouds.

And what else was there to do but go out and play in the dirt! The hubby and Sea Bee put in a raised garden for me this year.....but because it was the worst summer ever.....not much was happening out there. So this morning I decided that it needed to be made a couple of three feet narrower so that an old white haired lady could reach across to the middle and beyond to keep out the unwanted weeds when I have a nice garden (someday).....with the cloudy excuse I got busy....

Got both corners turned when something strange happened.......

I wanted to just stay out in it!!! But hubby said I would catch pneumonia so waited it out.........then back out later this afternoon to almost finish up......

I need a couple more blocks to finish up this end.......then will fill it in for Jase to have a spot to dig and plant something. The far end I will move those strawberry pots and maybe having them in the shade just a tad will help to keep some going again next year.......OK......a gal can dream.

The leaves have started falling so I can load them in the garden....cover with some dirt.....maybe plant some sort of cover crop for the winter.(will ask the Sea Bee's green thumb for advice)...and come next Spring!! Watch out! Jase can help GramMa Alice and maybe we will have a nice little garden.

Starting a new tradition....

Not sure how many know that Tuesday mornings around here are just for "Donuts with PopPa D"....well....we are adding another 'special' day to our week......."Thursday's with GramMa Alice".....So right after nap time on Thursday I get a call saying "we are ready".......and off I go.

We spent this first Thursday here at the house......

First stop was to pick up Chicken Popcorn from Kentucky Fried....not sure if the chicken or the box was the best???

Of couse there was PopPa D and Dinosaur time......

Then we discovered the rocker.........

This little rocker has been in my family for YEARS! When I was born it was gifted to my parents from our neighbor Mr & Mrs Poe......it was their daughter Lucille's when she was a child. (I really need to check when she was born next trip to Stephenville so we can estimate a date for the chair) The little rocker survived myself and my younger brother....countless visits from family and friends through my growing up years .....then through both my boys! They made them tough back then.

All in all I think we had a good time.........

Birthday.......I almost missed the Birthday!

Everytime Jase comes to see GramMa we visit the Magic Strawberry Plant.....yesterday was no exception......in fact he kept looking at me wondering why we didn't head out there as soon as he arrived!!!

The garden is a little downhill so walking isn't the easiest for a 18 month old little man...but he seems to have gotten the hang of it.

The PINK Campaign ......

If you have followed my blog you will know that I have had a "Think PINK" campaign going on for Angela and the new baby she is giving us. Not that I don't love Jase or the fact that we have a wonderful little GrandSon.....but Angela needs a little PINK baby to do 'girly' things with.......Jeffery does have Jase......so it is only fair. So since the announcement of the new little one I have asked everyone to Think PINK!

They have had two or more visits now with the Doctor or Midwife ...the first sonogram she told them it "sounds like a Cowboy"......I continued to stress Think PINK.....the next visit they were told "it sounds like a happy little girl".....in other words........who knows.......

Yesterday was THE day to find out what they are expecting ........ The way they do this is to have the tech doing the sonogram do her thing.....then write down or print out on one of the pictures what the baby will be......then they go out to dinner and open the envelope.. Wonderful tradition ......true......but a little hard on the GramMa.....

So.....we get a phone call while they are waiting for dinner....."We know the results so can we swing by on the way home?"........duh.......am I gonna say No? Then after hours (it seems) pass we get another call....."Jase is really tired so we are just going home and will come by tomorrow or the next day"......HA!!! I don't even think that is an option!

I have been collecting and knitting for this new arrival and have a Pretty Flowery Box full of PINK things.......and a storeage bag full of litle blue things.....

I know not very equal......but remember I was Thinkin' PINK........so I have them on the coffee table waiting for everyone to come over......when they get here I tell Angela she can have which ever she will use.......

Our Sweet Angela went over and looked at them both......then picks up the blue bag....I really tried to sound excited ......"oh...It's a Boy!"......then with a very serious look she hads me the bag back and says "You may want to keep this for the next baby"........WHAT????....

.......So now you know the end of our story..........Thank you all that were with me on the "Think PINK" campaign .......I do believe it worked!

Once is never enough

Remember when we put pavers at the back door to keep the furbaby muddy paw prints down??? Well..we have been brewin' over having more space on the other side for a table when we grill.

So early this morning the Sea Bee and Richard left to buy pavers so we could do just that. I woke to an empty house so got dressed and went outside to find this parked in my front yard......

So what else to do but get started!!!

First you dig out and level.....add a border to hold it all in..

..then sand that needs to be leveled out....then the pavers.....

.....Cricket was not impressed......

Today's rule was #1 Take it easy and do it right. No other rules....just the one. And that is what we did. We worked at this normally 3-5 hour job, all day...But it is finished and we are happy with the results.

Now to find a table...comfortable chair...and a large glass of Iced Tea...

When family comes together it is always special.....today wasn't an exception.

Angela, Jeffery and Jase came over today to grill out and we made ice cream......Of course a visit to my house always includes a check of the strawberries....

Now you might remember that my poor little plants are surviving .....but that is about it....but when Jase comes there seems to be a little GramMa Magic in the air....because a HUGE juicy strawberry always seems to appear........

......so we wondered out to see what could was there......

well....look what we found....

and of course.......

It was very good.....even to the very last bite....

Then we went in and had hamburgers with everything....and home made ice cream for desert......we were having too much fun because I forgot to take pictures....but it was all eaten and a little ice cream left for later too.

Before everyone left PopPa D had something to share with Jase......

...his very first golf lesson....

.....somehow sword playing was involved as well.....

.....but that's OK.....you never can tell when you might need that skill as well.

It is that time of the year....

...SUMMER HAIR CUT DAY !!! ...

.......so off we went....

You hear it all the time......but only a short week and WHAT a difference!

Remember back on Mother's Day?

We added pavers outside the back door..well...the 5+inches of rain tried to teach them to float or swim......so a little repair work was done and some of the sand was shifted so the grass is coming though now.....

....the lantanas are starting to bloom some too and that always helps....

My garden is now finished...and I have added a few more tomatoes

and the Sea Bee gave me a Jalapeno or two

(think he felt sorry for me because of my "sucess" of trying to start some from seed...not a pretty sight)

and finally a picture of the Lilies that came from my Mother's home.....after her passing and then the selling of the house things were so hecktic that I forgot to nab some of them from the garden.....I did remember to get a good start of the Peonias that she loved.....but the Lilies were the flowers I remembered most. A couple of years ago Jeffery wrote the owners of the house where she lived and asked if he could purchase the clothesline poles that she used and he remembered playing on......Lucky for him the new owners had just dug them up and she told him he was 'most welcome to them' ...so we went and while picking them up I got to walk through and tell her stories of the house I grew up in......when we saw the lilies were still thriving she offered us a 'start'......so now after living here for two springs now I have this.......

Nothing special.....just Day Lilies.......but when I see them I smile and remember.......

Richard and I decided that the garden either had to go or be moved this year......so we moved it .......

it was on the West side of the house where there is always a wind blowing and nothing to protect it.......so now it is in the back with a little shade in the heat of the day and all morning sun......if you look really close you can see the only things planted now.....a tomato that Jase just happened to eat my first ripe one the other day....a small Jalapeno and another tomato that should make sandwich sized ones.......the pot at the end has the remaining survivors of the strawberries that the Sea Bee gave me.......so far so good.....AND the best thing is this garden can grow taller as we add more compost......right now on the back side it is 20+inches deep...

This morning I was out and about and came across this......

.....the perfect Mother's Tshirt ever!!! I was pretty sure neither of my boys would buy something like this.......so it followed me home.....I may never take it off!!!

When I got home I found this from Richard...

....the card sings "I Will Always Love You"......

along with something for the table......

I think I am one very lucky lady!

The Sea Bee and Angela stopped by today to show pictures of 'the little one'....there are opinions of the sex of the baby....but I am still knitting and thinkin' PINK for all it is worth.

Meantime we had Jase to teach us about sharing....He was playing away with his toys when his favorite furbaby Hunk caught his attention. Hmmm....maybe Hunk was thirsty? So off he went to 'borrow' PopPa D's drink......and while he was at it thought about sharing his MumMum......

So today is Donut Day.....that is the day PopPa D, the Sea Bee and Jase meet at the local Donut Shop for morning coffee and ....you got it...donuts.

If you remember I gave the boys matching shirts for Easter......they all promised to wear them when they met today. There was even money mentioned! If you didn't show up in the shirt you had to pay the others $10 each......so I sent my camera along so Richard could have someone take the Trio's picture......

The story was "They were busy so only pictures at the actual Donut Shop were of the Sea Bee and Jase....

.....but that didn't stop the camera!!

......and you might have noticed that "Someone" cheated

and covered his shirt just a tad.......

Today has been a quiet celebration of Easter...

I had the morning to play in the kitchen baking and cooking for my family. Richard came home just intime to do the dishes.........gotta love a man with good timing. Later the Sea Bee, Angela and Jase came over and brought smiles.....

Jase had been on his 'egg hunt' that morning with Mom and Dad.......Angela said that he just hadn't quiet got the hang of it......found a egg.....that's enough! The Basket that Angela found was just perfect for the 'boys'.....

So instead of more hunting I had a bag of treats...........Angela got her favorite cookies....with PINK icing.......(yes,I am still thinkin' PINK really hard).......then Jase got into the bag......

there was a marshmellow chick on a stick......but it was tossed when he found .......

.....hurry MOM.........

a little more digging and we found a shirt.......not just any shirt.....but Sponge Bob .......and there were matching ones for Daddy and PopPa D!!!

Poppa D didn't seem as excited......and Daddy's was immediately put up "to wear on Donut Day"....

There was still just a little more in the bag......Cheetos!

After this we had dinner then more time to play!

Jase decided that the rugs needed to me moved..

which is more fun than you can imagine.......

Most of you will remember "the Twins"......well......Angela had them over for a visit today......and I was invited to join......

They aren't the 'babies' I remember.....instead they are 'little people' with their own distinct personalities now....

Jase seemed to have fun.....and learning to share as well.

I am glad I got to visit with them....even if only for a short time....

I wasn't sure how it would feel to see them again......
....but I am happy I did.

I have seen that they are growing......loved......cared for.......and still happy .......

and that was more than enough for me.

And since it was such a 'lazy' day.....we went over to visit with the kids and Jase......(notice how the parents tend to fade once there is a Grandchild around?) But rumor had it there was a 'new car' in the family!!!

Have been thinking about how blessed I am.....

I met and married a wonderful man that lets me be myself

.....and he still loves me......

I am a Mom

...I have two wonderful boys that have turned in to men I am proud of...

I have two children that love someone

......and they love them back.....

I was gifted with 3 more when I married

..(hate the words 'Step-Mother')..

....and I am just as proud of them as if they were my own.....

I am a Mother-in-Law to wonderful young women

....and hope they think of me as their friend....

(I never want to be one of "those" type of MILs)

I have grandchildren

....some born from family genes....

....some gifts that came with my husband....

....each one has a special place in my heart....

I am a Great-GramMa......
...of two beautiful little girls...
(and not many can say that at 57)

I have friends

... I can pour my heart out to...

...with joy or sadness...

...and know they will always be there to listen...

I may think I have health issues

...but manage to get up and see the sun shinning every morning........

I may think I have money issues

....but manage to have what is needed...

I know that there are and will be ups and downs in my life..

...that feelings will be hurt..

...that arguments will happen.....

that it will seem there are more bumps on my life's road than I can handle...

....but someday I will look back at them and smile

knowing I made it through each one......

I have decisions that need to be made each and every day...

...and I hope that I think of my many blessings before I decide what road I will takw with them......

As for today while the sun is shining and birds are singing outside my window?

Those that know me know I love to shop Thrift Stores! Well......the other day I found something that just needed to follow me home......they sat in the garage until today.....because today was a day that Jase needed them.......

You will notice that they really are 'outside' toys.....so outside we went......First though we had to admire the sand table that Dad built and Mom painted just for Jase.....

Back up ther Dad.....you built this for me!

now we have time for the new stuff...

zebras are nice...and fun to sit on...

.......but.......

.......there's just something 'special' about your first bike......

....especially if you have someone to help....

Yes......it is always fun when Jase comes over for a visit.....he even brings his parents just to be nice. But we all know that children take a step back when a Grandchild is in the house.

Yesterday was no exception........only thing different is it is "March Madness".....so PopPa D is teaching Jase the importance of the 'season'.......

First make sure you have plenty of beverages.....

Then move over.......

....we have games to watch.........

Angela, Jeffery and Jase are soon to be four! I got a phone call on the 9th from Jeffery.....he just rambled on and on ....then finally asked if he and Jase could come by the next day........Of course!! ......but he just kept talking....until finally he asked if I wasn't just a little courious why they were coming over......

That is when he HAD to tell......."We are expecting!"........so sometime in November or December early I will be GramMa again.......

I have asked everyone I know to THINK PINK.....although I have told Angela that we will be happy with whatever she decides to gift us with..

This little one will make an even dozen.........

Today was a busy day.....I spent most of it with my Boys......the Sea Bee and the Kid.......seems the Sea Bee has been wanting a few trees taken down at his homestead and the opportunity came along this week......so down go the trees.....but what do you do with all the bush and debris??? Why you rent a Chipper!!

And if your little brother and Mom stop by........why that is just an added bonus!!

There was quiet a bit.........

and before you knew it we had more volunteers......

Jeffery said he wanted to "take up golf".......so perfect opportunity for Richard to have a day on the greens as well. They have been out a time or two but Friday it was the range for practice. Jase stayed with me and after a bit we hit the road.....Jase in the stroller and I was the motor. We walked up to the golf course and found this.......

I know I am not ready.....wonder if anyone else is?

So many things have been happening since I last updated......some sad....others happy....but certainly all was 'just life'.

Our Jase has learned to crawl....and cut a couple of teeth...so he is now keeping Mom and Dad on their toes! and he seems to have gotten interested with the computer as well.....

I have been knitting....some say 24 hours a day but I know that I do take breaks. Seems 'test knitting' has really caught my attention. Not sure if it is the chance to do something new before it is "out there" or just a new experience....either way some wonderful patterns have passed through my yarn.

Things have been a bit down for us the last few weeks.....the Twins have gone to live with their Father and his Wife. We will miss them. I am so thankful for the things they taught my children while we were blessed with their care. We are all better because of them.

But.....since the Twins arrivived the Sea Bee and Angela had their hands full.....so full they missed the fun of fixing up a nursery for Jasen's arrival. Well.....this had to be fixed!! So the last few days while Jase took his Parents on his first vacation....I moved in and worked a little love.

Richard and I went over and between the two of us we arranged the things that the kids had gathered and had a ball....

Somehow when you are young you never think that you will ever be 57....but it happens...I proud to say that I have finally got there!

Tuesday I drove into Austin and met with Nikki and Vicki for lunch .... we laughed....giggled...and discussed all that needed discussing.......so that was a little icing on my cake because I try and celebrate the whole month ...

Yesterday the Sea Bee, Angela and family invited Richard and I to their home for lunch/dinner and the Kid and his Alissa were to come later for my B'day and cake..........well.............seems some people can keep secrets around here........

because while sitting there holding babies (Nick in my lap....Nya using me as a brace for standing) in walked my Nancy, her hubby Bill and look who was right behind them........

neither let one thing slip the other day.....must have been hard...even when they told me bye..........

wasn't long and the Kid and Alissa showed (she took off work for her MIL-to-be!!) so all were present and what fun we had.....

....we held babies......ate ham, potato salad (thank you Nikki) green bean casserole (thank you Vicki) tossed salad and birthday cake..........a few had more cake than some.......but everyone I think enjoyed themselves..........who cares.....I did and it was my birthday!!!

I got gift cards..... set of the Hiya Hiya interchangeable and if that wasn't enough a case to keep them in and a case from my new 'gadget'......Richard gave me a MP3 player ......think I am too old??? I wanted it to hold pictures to carry with me.....has anyone noticed that no one has snapshots in their purses anymore???......well.....now I have a place to put some (has a larger screen so I don't need glasses to see the pictures) along with downloading books to listen to while knitting in the car or around.......and he got me silver ear buds with bling on the ends!!! I will be shiny.........

then there were the boys........my kids are famous for giving me ..........."interesting"........ya that's a good word......interesting gifts........well they haven't changed much.......

the Sea Bee gave me a pistol and the Kid the accessories.......when I opened the box I hadn't a clue what it was .....then the Sea Bee says......."It is big enough to knock something down but small enough to fit in your knitting bag"...........honest!! ask Vicki or Nikki.........

the day was full of surprises and fun and most of all baby kisses.........

.......almost forgot......when we came home.....this was in the drive.......

my fault really ......I use to take the boys with me when I did this to an Uncle I loved dearly......for several years he hadn't a clue who was doing it!!

and as usual I seem to be behind...so let me tell you has been happening with pictures........

We had been talking about a flowerbed in the front yard .....well Richard and Jeffery decided it was time.....now I need to decide just what needs to live there.......don't the work well together.....all I have to do is watch!

When one of the neighbors moved recently they 'gifted' us with their swingset....so when I hear giggles in the house coming from outside.......

this is what I find.......the Twins will swing until you give out......

...... we have just fun with them indoors as well.....Niya is really on the move and Nick gets into the oddest situations......

....still not sure how he got rings on both feet?....

Today is Easter.....instead of hunting eggs we took lots of pictures.......so since that is why you probably stopped by........here ya go...........

Let me tell you about this rocker..... I inherited it from a neighbors that I called Grandma & Poppa Poe.....it belonged to their daughter Lucille...she was born near 1900..(I really should look this up just so we know when)......when I was born the Poe's gifted it to me and I have had it since. Somewhere in the photo albums there are pictures of me and my brother sitting in it and of my boys when they were of the right age. So today we took advantage of the good weather and happy babies to follow the tradition .....Niya and Nick were fine with it..Jasen just wasn't too sure.....but I am sure they will all grow into it in time.......

on Thursday we got to have all three....some may think this is a handful...and it is ......a handful of blessings...

Little Local Meet

Once a month a group of my favorite people (knitters) meet up for a Little Local Meet.......we take turns meeting on the East side of I35 then here on the West side...this month was my turn. Usually we sit and knit and see what we have each been working on.........but yesterday Angela and Jeffery brought the babies for everyone to hold and snuggle with. Unfortunately several were unable to attend......but I think the ones that did enjoyed themselves......I know I did.

It was snow......not sure how much we really got but it was enough to make you want to stay indoors in PJs......just cause ya could!!!

around 7:30 this morning it was falling nice and steady......

a little later around 9:30.........

then the heaviest was around noon.........after that it warmed up to 33F and things started to melt some.......but it kept falling.....weatherman says it will continue most of the night....but to expect "record low's"........so that means two things.......

my Cousin

Everyone has one.....you love them all .....but there is always that 'special' cousin that will always have that certain spot in your heart. My Cousin was Denny.

When growing up it just wasn't summer until Uncle Bob, Aunt Bea, Janice and Denny made the trip to Texas. Every year they would load up in their station wagon and come to see Uncle Paul and Aunt Lillie......there were times that my brother and I felt we were just lucky that we lived there as well.....

When Denny came we put a chair and a TV tray or cardtable on the front porch so he could sit and watch the 18 wheelers drive by....he didn't care if we wanted to play or run or do other things....he loved sitting there watching the trucks.....he would count them, draw them, and wave at them ....hoping that one would notice him and honk. When it would start getting dark Daddy would start rounding us all up to get ready for bed and he always took the time for Denny to tell of all the things he had seen that day.

I know life wasn't easy for Denny growing up. He was in many schools .......some were for learning life skills......some for learning working skills.....some were away from home ......but nothing changed him.....he was always Denny.

In his adult life Uncle Bob and Aunt Bea helped find a home near them and Janice and her husband Isi......he was able to live there with help ......he had care givers that worked shifts living with him helping when he needed help doing things.

He held a job......I can't remember where he last worked .....but I do remember him working at a cleaner/laundry......he was in charge of turning pockets! To some this probably doesn't sound all that great of a job.....but here you got to keep the spare change, screws, nails, nuts and bolts or anyother small item found in the pockets. Larger things like knives, watches or folding money were held for a certain number of days and if not claimed then he could keep them as well. Somehow the money found was never that important to Denny....but those screws....nuts and bolts....and nails.....now that was something else.....these he saved and shared with his Dad.

He owned a car and loved going places.

He loved sports and was on a Bowling League. Going to watch Bowling was always an adventure. The team really didn't care what the scores were.......they just loved being there. Everyone got involved.....you cheered for strikes......spares......pins hit and even sometimes pins missed. I can't remember ever leaving after watching a game or two and not being happy....the smile would stay on your face until you went to bed.

Denny always acted shy........but if you were ever in need of a hug....or just looked sad ......he would be the first to come up and pat you on the back and say "Everything will be alright"......and give you the hug you needed.

Denny was MY Cousin........and I am gonna miss him.......

Funny how the two fit so well........my blessings are the friends I have made through the State-wide knitting group I joined back in 2003 (WOW has it really been that long?).........LSSK has a tradition of knitting squares for new Mothers and Grandmothers that are members...........well.....Jasen is the first of the Sharp family so he was blessed with squares from all over and I stitched them into this blanket......

Then a surprise box arrived with this in it.....

yes.....Giraffes........Angela's favorite........seems a few "special ladies" were watching and listening as well as remembering.........so Jasen has been double blessed..

Words can not express the feeling of love when I touched each square in both blankets........and someday when he is a little older I will tell him the stories of how I met each lady and the special love they shared.

The fun began the minute we arrived.....

there was hair stylin'......

school parties.....

resting up.....

Cooks in the kitchen.....

finally food made it to the table.....

but then more restin' was needed......

Then "the day after" .......construction started.....

first with a few little repairs....

now for some fun stuff.....

but well worth all the work.....

and then Journey and I started a project. She is about to be an Aunt for the very first time and I will be welcoming my second Great Grand Daughter this year.....so we are knitting for this little bundle together......

as always our visit seemed short.....but so many memories will remain.

Out with the Old.....In with the New....

Seems I need to end the old year so the new can begin.......

Christmas......this was our first tensil-less year.....Yep....one day Richard just announced that maybe we could use a pre-lit tree......so I went shopping!!!

Even though we were missing the tensil.........well........actually we did hide a box in the branches.........the tree was perfect. And we will now be adding an ornament each year as a gift to each other.

The gifts were exchanged ......I had announced to everyone last Christmas that we were having a 'homemade Chirstmas in 2009' and I do believe that everyone was pleased.....

Richard worked on 'memory' or 'treasure' boxes for each of the Grands...

...and folding tables for each Child......the Sea Bee was the only one to really inspect.

We received a scrapbook of the Twins and family from Rodney and Alissa.....a swing from Jeffery and Angela...windchimes from Shelley...a knitting bag, teeshirt, chimes, mug for me, puzzle books too many things that we can use our hands with from the Arizona bunch.......this is only a few of the wonderful gifts we received to celebrate the season............

But the very best was Family...........we saw all the kids and families and friends that mean the most to us.

We even had a visit from our first Great GrandDaughter Olivia Ann Imholte........

she is just perfect and a bundle of love...

Then there was the ending of 2009.........honestly.......I don't want to end a year like this again.........first there was "it"........"It" came to live in each of our homes for 24 to 48 hours........after 'it' left.......the cold/flu came for a visit....not sure who got it first but hopefully I am the last one!!!.....Richard, Jeffery, and Angela still have the cough that I want to be rid of soon.......and let's not forget the longest few days.........both of the Twins were in the hospital with RSV........I had never heard of RSV!!! much less knew it had a "season"???......now I know more than I ever wanted to know about this ......the babies are home again....Niya spent a little time in PICU she also had flu......and Nick followed a couple of days later......they are doing better...but still have the horrible cough and of course the runny noses.....but I have been told there is improvement........after I finish my stint of the cough I am gonna have some 'baby time' again!!!

We all need to be well and ready because.......we are the 'stand-by' for the arrival of Jasen Paul who should be arriving in just a few weeks.......are we ready for three babies in one house???

The weekend really started last Wednesday when the yearly meet up of the "October Babies" started. Once a year my Richard, his brother Dan, son Clint and nephew Steve get together to celebrate their birthdays

(all in October...so October Babies ....)

Celebrations begin the minute they are all together and golf is always the order of the day. They managed to hit three courses in the area then ended the weekend with the Birthday Bash for Richard's 70th.

Of course there was the annual toasting to the Members of the Board.....

Saturday evening several followed them home from the golf course and others trickled in as the evening wore on...hamburgers.....brauts...and cake were all in order.

...he managed to collect a nice bunch of presents as well......

And the cake......

Seems the Sea Bee and DIL also made a cake...

..and it was just perfect as far as the B'day Boy was concerned.

until he started ...

...moving it ....

(no beer was harmed in the process)

The whole weekend was a sucess as far as I could tell......and the Birthday Boy......well what do you think???

Plans have already been started for next year.........

Things have been happening around here...you can be upstairs just tending to your own business when you hear something going on and look down the steps to find.....

things happening in your "powder room".....well we got one of those new toilets that have the fancy 'dual flush'......now we argue over which button does what......doesn't really matter......it does what it should anyway.

Then there are the Baby Day days......these are always fun.....you never know what is gonna happen........for example......

....there are always tools to be tested........

.....naps to be taken......

....talking with PopPa D or just checking out the newest toys.....

... then everyone wants in on that fun...

So you see it has been busy around here......plus the roses have all decided to bloom.......and it is almost November!!!

Yesterday was Vicki's Birthday........not only is she my bestest friend but she has also been 'dubbed' Aunt Vicki by my children.....seems if something were to happen to all of us she will inherit Tinkerbell... She has finally caught up with me in age and when talking to her this morning I reminded her that in 4 years we would be 60!!......since we are bestest friends we do things together...

Once a month the local knitters of LSSK gather for our LLM (Little Local Meet) for pot luck and knitting time together. So along with eating and fun we celebrated Vicki's birthday with Cake and even blew out the candle for good wishes for the next year.......not to worry....I ate cake for her since she was home celebrating with her family instead.......well....she is my bestest friend...

I can hardly believe my Baby is 29 today.......He has grown into such an interesting man.

I asked what he wanted for his Birthday and he said "A jelly roll like Ma Darnell use to make.....Strawberry would be nice"...well....this seemed easy enough.......so went through Mom's Recipe Box......and gathered the ingredients then baked up the cake part.......spread on the jelly ......then the trouble started...... I have made these before but it has been sometime.....I knew you had to spread sugar on the area you place the cake part so it is easier to roll.......but what I seemed to forget was how long the cake should cool before doing this......well......it ain't a pretty thing......but it tastes just fine

...now would you believe Rodney wanted to spend the day at the Sea Bee and DILs so he could have a "baby day" ??

He is Uncle Ro-Ro to the twins and a few un-official nieces and nephews around......and he is very good at it!.........well.....except for the changing poopy pants part.

Rodney works for US105 Radio......he has done just about everything around there from starting out in sales to helping with broadcasts and now is the Promotions Co-Ordinator. At the moment the Children's Miracle Network is his big promotion.....among the things he does with this is interview some of the children and their families....and I have seen it open his heart to something that everyone takes for granted....

I have watched this little guy grow into a loving man with a huge heart and am proud to say that he is my Baby.....

Little late for posting Labor Day........but then I am retired....

... I don't wear a watch anymore...

... and hardly ever look at the calendar..........

We went to the Sea Bee's and the guys grilled hamburgers and braut........

Nick was ready to visit when they got here...so everyone had to say Hi!

Cricket wanted "just a little sugar"......

but Niya........she was not to be disturbed....

..so Hunker just waited.......

Then PopPa D stepped up and handled things while I was in the kitchen....

.......didn't he do a great job???

now while all this "resting" was going on........I was in the kitchen........

saw the picture of this on a magazine (that had to follow me home) and today was the perfect day for working in doors........will let ya know how it was later......we have plans for TV ... Caramel Cake .... and tall glasses of milk!!

I am upstairs working on a few things and starting the week out right........when I hear this bark. Nothing to worry about but a steady one bark thing....

I start counting dogs and sure enough Cricket is missing. I was thinking maybe she found a way out of the yard and was wanting back in....she knows it is a bad thing to find yourself in the front yard and no way back in the house. So down the stairs I go in search of the missing Cricket.

The bark seemed to come more from the back of the house.......but I didn't see her anywhere in the yard???? Then I noticed this...

Yep.....if you look really close you will see......

then you get a little closer and see where she has wondered to......

This was not a happy dog.......but after a little help.......

We just keep talking about babies around here..........well......we have to!!! They are everywhere!!!

Since Jeffery and Angela fostering twins....... we get to have them for short periods.........but they do seem to tucker out some of us........

And we have visits from the Grandson, Jake and his significant other Cat and they come with DVDs to introduce us to Olivia Ann Imholte.......so I predict some green girly things pretty soon....

We had a few questions come up so I gave my new GrandDaughter Jennifer a shout and she talked to me over 30 minutes without telling me the news......seems Nick wanted to tell PopPa D that they were expecting a little someone in the coming year!!! Yep.......Great Grand #2........
